US Transportation Secretary names FAA NextGen Advisory Committee Chair
U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Today announced that Russell &ldquo chao;Chip” Childs was appointed Chair of the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) NextGen Advisory Committee (NAC). Childs is Chief and President Executive Officer of SkyWest, Inc.
Childs, an ongoing person in the NAC, replaces former Chair David Bronczek, who retired from FedEx Corporation. Childs shall serve through the existing term of the NAC charter, june 8 which is, 2020.
“Chip’s extensive experience in the aviation community can help the Advisory Committee in the ongoing discussion about maximizing NextGen capabilities,” said Secretary Elaine L. Chao.

The NAC provides advice to the FAA on NextGen investment priorities, National Airspace System performance metrics, technologies, deployment and equipage schedules. Among the NAC’s primary objectives would be to enhance operations in the Northeast Corridor, that is probably the most congested airspace in the national country. Childs shall lead discussions on how best to manage mixed equipage in aircraft communication, surveillance and navigation avionics to have success in the Northeast Corridor.
