Globalia and unwto launch the next Global Tourism Start-up Competition
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has joined Globalia, a respected tourism group in Latin and Spain America, to launch the next edition of the UNWTO Global Tourism Start-up Competition. Following the success of the initial edition, which attracted 3,000 applications from around the world, the world’s largest start-up competition for tourism has returned to recognize ideas and innovators who’ll lead the transformation of the sector.
The new demand proposals was announced through the 23rd General Session of the UNWTO General Assembly in St Petersburg, Russian Federation. Announcing the news headlines, UNWTO General-Secretary stressed the important role innovation can play to make tourism a central area of the Sustainable Development Agenda.
“With this particular competition we have been exploring new terrain in tourism, innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainable development. We’ve succeeded in combining probably the most relevant stakeholders in the progress of our sector and its own relevance on a worldwide scale”, said Zurab Pololikashvili.
Joining him for the announcement, Globalia CEO Javier Hidalgo emphasised the collaborative effort of the second edition, with support from partners including Telefónica, Amadeus, Distrito and intu Digital Valencia.

The new partners will take part in promoting the project&rsquo actively;s five categories besides finding the right solutions & most disruptive projects predicated on home based business models:
In partnership with Telefónica, this category is for projects that improve travel facilitate and quality user mobility on any sort of transport. The goal is to reduce economic, time-related and environmental costs.
This category, supported by Distrito Digital Valencia, is for ideas that enhance the sustainability and profitability of a destination from an economic, socio-cultural and environmental perspective, with technology proven to promote innovation and accessibility within an globalised world increasingly.
Deep Tech, rethinking geolocation</p and localisation

Awarded together with Amadeus, this category is for ideas offering a distinctive value to visit and tourists companies through localization systems. The category will undoubtedly be centered on ideas for using data extracted through AI and localization technology to create trips even easier. These basic ideas may be used to identify holiday destinations, link them to nearby airports, extract data on image, video or text localization, optimise urban routes, analyse reviews about locations plus much more.
