US Embassy in Ecuador issues emergency travel alert
Today the U.S. Embassy in Quito, Ecuador has received notification that road blockades continue in cities and towns through the entire country within ongoing demonstrations.
Although some transportation unions announced the suspension of these strike, other groups continue steadily to protest. The Embassy continues to get reports of road and demonstrations blockades in cities and towns through the entire country, across the Pan-American highway particularly. You can find reports of pockets of violence connected with these demonstrations. Travel could be disrupted during this time period.
Indigenous groups, workers unions, social organizations, on Wednesday plus some transportation groups have needed a national strike, October 9, 2019. This step shall likely involve marches heading toward the historic center of Quito round the presidential palace. Protests could happen in other towns and cities aswell.
